Dabble leans heavy into the younger crowd: unique social bet features, app only, tik-tok style betting feed, the focus on user-engagement is unmatched. It makes Dabble genuinely unique from other corporate books, but the underlying strategy is the same: NT-license, limit winners, corporate influence (Tabcorp). They're a great betting app, but the recommendation feels a bit like picking the lesser evil.
Dabble is the AU bookie that gets talked up like it’s reinvented punting, and the affiliate sites are uniformly tripping over themselves to crown it the new king of Aussie wagering. The app is well-built, the social feed is properly new, user ratings are strong. Filter through the marketing, and the real picture gets more distorted.
This is the only Dabble review that lines up every score in one place: App Store, Google Play, Trustpilot, and the major Aussie affiliate editors and comparison sites. The gap between some of those numbers is the story, and in my opinion the best way to set expectations.
| Source | Rating | Volume | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|---|
| App Store | 4.7 / 5 | ~15,000 ratings | Genuinely strong, serious sample size. App is well-loved. |
| Google Play | 4.6 / 5 | ~4,900 reviews | Almost identical to iOS. Cross-platform consistency is rare. |
| Trustpilot | 1.9 / 5 | 36 reviews | Tiny sample, worst rating in the snapshot. Limiting and withdrawal complaints. |
| Bets.com.au (editor) | 9.8 / 10 | Editor scored | Glowing. Among the most positive editor scores on Bets. |
| Bets.com.au (punter) | 3.6 / 5 | 84 reviews | Decent, not glowing. Tracks the broader pattern. |
| MyBettingSites | 4.7 / 5 | Editor scored | Affiliate-positive. |
| Kruzey | 4.8 / 5 | Editor scored | Affiliate-positive. |
| JustHorseRacing | 3.6 / 5 | Editor scored | Lukewarm by affiliate standards. Racing-first lens. |
| Racing Base | 5 / 5 | Editor scored | Affiliate-positive. |
| GoBet | 4.5 / 5 | Editor scored | Affiliate-positive, pushing their exclusive promo code. |
The standout is Trustpilot 1.9. Small sample but the complaint pattern is the same across every Aussie corporate book: limiting, slow payouts, restrictions on winners. JustHorseRacing’s lukewarm 3.6 is interesting too, racing-first reviewers being the most measured about a brand that pitches social over horses.
Dabble launched in May 2020, founded by brothers Jon and Dave Robin with CTO Scott Hutchens, based in Darwin. Tom Rundle, ex-PointsBet COO, came in as CEO three months later. Tabcorp dropped AU$33 million for a 20% stake in October 2022, valuing Dabble at roughly AU$165 million.
The product is different. Mobile-only on purpose, built around a TikTok-style Activity Feed where you see what mates are betting on, copy their bets in one tap, chat in Banter Channels, and follow athletes like Dane Swan or James Tedesco. Targeted hard at punters under 35 (78% of the user base, by Dabble’s own numbers).
The catch: under the social skin, Dabble is still a fixed-odds NT-licensed corporate bookmaker. Same commercial pressures as every other corporate. The product is fresh. The business model isn’t.
Dabble Sports Pty Ltd, an Australian-owned private company in Darwin. Tabcorp Holdings holds a 20% strategic stake from October 2022. Day-to-day control sits with the founders and CEO Tom Rundle.
The setup makes Dabble structurally distinct: Sportsbet sits under Flutter, Ladbrokes and Neds under Entain, Betfair under Crown/Blackstone, Unibet under FDJ, bet365 under the Coates family. Dabble is the only major AU bookie still mostly Aussie-controlled. Licensed by the NTRC.
The social layer is the reason to pick Dabble over an Entain or Flutter product. The Activity Feed shows trending bets, mate bets and tipster bets in a vertical scroll. Copy Bet replicates any of them in one tap. Banter Channels are sport-specific chat rooms that are actually used. Careful to not be too cheeky in there or you’ll risk getting muted.
Group Bets let mates pool into a single multi and split the return, a genuinely new feature nobody else does well. Athlete takeovers with current and ex-pros hosting live Q&As are gimmicky but fun. The Dane Swan tipster integration has built a real following.
The Pick’Em product (player-prop projections, pick over or under) is the same engine Dabble runs in the US for daily fantasy sports (DFS). Not the deepest version going, but well-integrated and in my opinion cleaner than Sportsbet or bet365’s equivalent.
Racing is fine, not a standout. Broad coverage across Aussie and NZ thoroughbreds, harness and greyhound meets, fixed odds and tote, with live streaming on most domestic meets. Form data is basic next to Neds‘ Toolbox or Sportsbet’s racing product. JustHorseRacing’s 3.6 reflects this honestly. Racing-first punters can do better elsewhere.
Sports-first social punters under 35: Dabble is one of the best products in the AU market. The Activity Feed, Copy Bet, Banter Channels and athlete takeovers are real features nobody else has matched.
Racing-first punters: Dabble is adequate, not exceptional. Neds, Sportsbet and Betfair give you a sharper racing product.
Anyone betting at scale: read the Trustpilot reviews first. Small sample, but the pattern is consistent. Expect limits, same as any other corporate book.
Brand mission is “betting, but better-together.” The honest version: Dabble has built the freshest betting product in Australia and a community layer nobody else has, on top of the same NT-licensed corporate bookmaker model. Whether that’s worth the trade-offs depends on whether you wanted the social bit in the first place.
